Old or new tax regime for FY 2026-27?
The new regime is the default and has no tax up to ₹12 lakh of taxable income for most residents. The old regime still wins if your deductions are large. Here is how to decide.
The new tax regime is the default. With the ₹75,000 standard deduction and the section 87A rebate, salaried residents with income up to about ₹12.75 lakh pay no tax.
The old regime can still be better if you claim large deductions — 80C investments, health insurance under 80D, HRA and home-loan interest. Use our tax calculator to compare both for your numbers, or ask us.
